Post-COVID Traveling Checklist
For many of us, we’ve been taking care of our friends, family and the community by staying put at home. But restrictions are easing up across Canada and travel is officially on the horizon. Make up the lost time and visit your loved ones or if you’ve got the travel bug - start planning your overseas trip.
However, there’s a few things to consider before you book those flights and start packing your suitcase. Jet setting isn’t quite as simple as it once was, but we’ve got you covered. Below, our team has compiled a checklist to help you as you navigate your trip.
✔️ As you dust off your passport, check that it is actually still valid
✔️ As you know - things change at the drop of a hat. Make sure you understand the change and cancellation policies on your flights, hotels, and other bookings
✔️ Get health & travel insurance and ensure it covers the important stuff
✔️ Get vaccinated. By doing so, you take care of yourself and those around you. Don’t forget that some places will require proof of vaccinations
✔️ Bring a mask and sanitize often
✔️ Give yourself lots of time. There may be additional protocols that create longer waits at the airport
✔️ Be courteous of others. Not everyone is comfortable with travel, so it’s important to be kind and give people space if they need it
✔️ Most importantly, have fun and explore new things. You deserve it
Step 1: Do your research
Whether you are travelling to a different province or country, do in-depth research about your destination’s restrictions. As many places begin to open up for travel again, specific protocols may be in place such as quarantining to and from destinations, curfews, or having proof vaccinations.
Doing research online or calling a local health centre to learn more about the conditions is essential, that way you avoid unforeseen complications and dampen your trip.
Step 2: Plan, plan, plan
Is your version of an itinerary, having no itinerary? Normally, being spontaneous and going with the flow really adds a layer of adventure and excitement to your experience. However, in a post-pandemic world, being spontaneous may not be the best idea. Having a plan can be the difference between having a perfect trip and one that is highly stressful.
